Course Description:
Many young children experience trauma and grief, often before they have the language to express or understand their feelings. When thoughtfully selected and paired with compassionate experiences, children’s literature can offer powerful opportunities for healing, connection, and understanding. In this live webinar, participants will explore developmentally appropriate literature that supports children navigating trauma and/or grief and learn how stories can help young learners make sense of emotions, relationships, and the experiences of others. The session includes recommended and trusted book examples for early childhood classrooms, along with modeled strategies and experiences that educators can use to foster empathy, emotional expression, and healing through story.
Learning Objectives:

Identify developmentally appropriate children’s literature that supports children experiencing trauma and/or grief.

Describe how literature can be used as a tool to help young children understand emotions, healing, and the experiences of others.

Apply compassionate strategies and experiences to accompany literature in early childhood classrooms.
Certificate Information:
