Course Description:
This course explores the powerful role of children’s literature in supporting healing for those who have experienced trauma. Educators will learn how to thoughtfully select books that inspire hope and reflect diverse, relatable characters, while planning literacy activities that encourage listening, reflection, and meaningful engagement. Participants will also discover strategies to design supportive reading spaces that help children feel safe, seen, and supported through the power of storytelling.
What You’ll Learn:
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Identify and select appropriate children’s literature that inspires hope and reflects diverse, relatable characters to support children affected by trauma.

Develop a literacy plan that integrates thoughtful book selection, listening goals, planned questions, and interactive activities to foster resilience and healing.

Design supportive reading centers using materials, props, and manipulatives that encourage safe, meaningful engagement and self-expression.
